Captain Chronicles

2015-05-18-bw-beacham1 The crew of the Angel Flame received orders to head out. It was a regular day. The ocean was rather quiet than usual. So the crew decided to fulfill the orders immediately as they wanted to get back before Christmas eve.

Few hours after leaving the harbor, captain saw something he couldn’t believe. He panicked and informed the crew that they are heading back. Just to be sure of what he saw, he called the co captain.

“Tell me Parker, what do you see?”

“It’s hard to say sir, the distance is huge. Could be some sort of mirage.”

“Come on! There are lives at stake here. Don’t play your stupid games. Hurry.”

“No sir. With all due respect, I’d say, we should explore. I don’t see any danger.”

“You insane? You’re telling me there’s nothing wrong with a green Hawaiian-like island with dinosaur creatures roaming around, right in the middle of Antarctica? Huh?” Shouted the captain, whilst turning the ship back.

The Only Choice

2015-05-11-bw-beacham

Arriving at the beach, she reflected on her life. Nothing seemed to distract her – the warm breeze, the tidal waves or the noisy pelicans – none of them. It was a fairly beautiful day but not for Amaya. She couldn’t care less.

Her life choices had always been made for her. She never got to choose. This was a new territory for her – of having a choice. Scared to the core, thinking about what will happen next, has left her completely baffled.

Now if only she could ascertain whether to go back to the life of petty crime or to surrender herself for the murder she never committed. Tough first choice.

Choice to save herself or the person who has been controlling her life since forever.

Deep in thoughts, she was staring into nothingness of the horizon. Suddenly her chain of thoughts were disrupted by a cute german shepherd, who came looking for its frisbee which got stuck in the branches of a big tree standing tall behind the rocks.

For a minute, Amaya forgot all about her tensions and started petting the canine. “Hey big guy! What are you doing here? Go play near the water.” Pointing to the frisbee, the dog communicated what it wanted. Amaya got the frisbee, looked at the happy go lucky dog, kissed him goodbye and threw the frisbee as far as she could.

Just as she watched the german shepherd bounce toward the flying saucer, carefree, enjoying the moment, she got up, held her head high with determination and with a big smile on her face, she took the first step toward her freedom.

You’re Not You (2014)

You’re Not You (2014) – Review

You're_Not_You_(2014)_Movie_Poster

“One moment can change your life.”

A single moment, unaware, will catch you off-guard, and whoosh. Just like that, quick like the snapping of fingers, your life will turn upside down.

I guess it is some sort of strange coincidence that most of the (handful) movie reviews I have done so far, all of them were based on a novel of same name as the movie! This one was written by (the novel) Michelle Wildgen.

The movie is beyond emotional. really intense. Even the trailer was moving, I almost choked up watching it.

The story is about a woman named Kate (Hilary Swank). Her life is PERFECT. A professional who has a great husband , amazing job, amazing house, great friends, is an independent and strong woman, who is basically a perfectionist. It just so happens that all this was not meant stay forever.

One fine day whilst playing the piano, Kate realized that something was wrong. Her fingers started twitching on their own.

A year and a half later, we get to know she has got ALS or the Lou Gehrig’s Disease. (Slow death of neurons, person loses control over bodily functions and inevitably leads to death. There is no cure.)

Her husband Evan (Josh Duhamel) is doing everything in his power to support her. He becomes her part time nurse. He bathes her, clothes her, dons her make-up even, he is doing his duty, the best he can. But is it enough?

Enters Bec (Emmy Rossum). A care-free rebellious college goer, who was looking for a part time job and ends up at Kate and Evan’s doorsteps. Gets caught smoking on the very first day even.

She obviously doesn’t have any experience or any sort of nursing skills, still Kate insists on hiring her.

Kate fired her previous nurse since she “treated her like a patient.”

It is heart-breaking to see Kate, who was used to doing everything on her own and being in control, depending literally and figuratively on someone else for EVERYTHING.

Honestly, after watching Bec screw up big time, I didn’t think she would continue to stay on the job. I was hoping to see someone who would be sincere and mature enough to understand what they were dealing with.

But surprise surprise. She gets called in again! Bec herself gets surpised that how, after messing it up and literally laughing at Kate’s face when she fell down (in the toilet), she could still be on the job?

But Kate says one small but important thing. Bec doesn’t treat her like a patient. She is a person. And unlike all the other nurses who keep telling her what to do, she in turn would like to tell them what to do. And that Bec will actually listen to her.

“One person can give us hope.”

Trial and Error my friend, trial and error. Everyone learns eventually. Even Bec did. She learned a lot of things from Kate. Who knew? So there starts a journey, of Kate and Bec, two women, a very odd and unlikely pair. They share moments, their ups and downs, a little heart to heart talk once or twice maybe.  The adventures of Kate and Bec!

And there comes a moment in the movie, where the title is used. It reveals the meaning. Why this title. And it’s beautiful, trust me. Don’t wanna spoil it so wont say.

They both learn from and teach each other in ways unimaginable. Kate learns to loosen up a bit, let go and laugh and enjoy at times.

Bec learns how to be responsible – not only for herself but for another person who is actually a patient. A very critical one at that.

What about the husband? He’s there, but……

Some people will surprise you. Some people will make a huge impact on you and change you in a way you had never imagined.

This is one such story. Great highs and lows, lots of emotional moments, some funny bits as well, this movie will surely make you more empathetic in general.

Definitely worth a watch. Kate and Bec changed each other unknowingly perhaps, and changed for good. Yes, a tragic end but the journey was worthwhile. Even the way how Bec managed things at the end was worth a watch.

Life is all about the journey. Make the most of it.

You're Not You - cover

The movie will make you realize:

How important is it to have someone who makes you realize that you should not wait for death, being in constant fear, but seize the moment and live fearless.

How just with showing some faith and trust in another person and their capabilities can do to their lives, it could mean the world to them.

Hilary Swank:. Wow Just Wow. Proved that she can act extremely well, even with such challenging roles.

Josh Duhamel: Short but powerful role.

Emmy Rossum: Basically a singer-song writer but a great actress as well. Very original, very believable.

“Life is measured in moments that leave us breathless.”

The Danger Sign – Scene 5

The Danger Sign – Scene 5

*Flashback continues*

The man came closer to me, full of anger.

I cried and cried and cried.

No one came to help. No one came to my rescue.

The man put his hand on my mouth. I tried to shout. I tried to escape, but he grabbed me, still holding the cigarette. Still lit.

I wanted to push that man aside. Wanted to grab that thing out of his hand and throw it away.

It was causing all the trouble.

I wanted to break-free. My tiny little hands were of no use. The gigantic man, with his huge dirty hands, was almost choking me.

I panicked. The smoke had filled the entire stairwell.

“Alright you puny noise-maker, I don’t have any more patience for you. just be quiet now. Promise me you wont shout and wont tell anyone ’bout this (holding up the cigarette), and I’ll let you go.” He finally said with indifference.

Maybe I didn’t listen or didn’t comprehend it soon enough to react, or was just too scared to react at all…..

I had to scream. I screamed my lungs out.

It was the only thing to do in that situation for a little girl who was scared to death.

*Ker-Chack*

Right across my face.

I knew it was coming.

I knew he would hit me.

But I never anticipated, what came next…..

Friendships, Feelings And More

115847-113843

“It’s all about Trust.
Sharing your feelings with friends…
To say or not to say???”
– Realist Rebel

There are many friendships which go way beyond the usual hunky-dory hang outs and chilling together. Most people are of the category who have back-ups for their necessary outgoing “social life”. Can we really call them “friends”??

Maybe those are the kind who are known as a “fair-weathered friend”.

There is another kind. Who come a little far from the previous type. The expression “a friend in need is a friend indeed”, probably got inspired from them.

And then there are some, very rare species these days, friends who have a connection. A real one. Who can really understand what the other is saying or not saying. Such friendships, if found, must be treasured for life.

Some people talk a lot yet say very little.

They will go on and on, just incessantly blabbering away about everyday nothings and never truly reveal what they are feeling. Such people are either hiding something or they don’t trust you enough to talk about personal stuff.

Some people talk less yet manage to say a lot.

They remain quiet usually. But when they talk everything makes sense. They wont directly reveal their feelings but if you listen closely, you might just be able to figure out.

Yup there are other kinds too. Talk and say a lot at the same time or do neither!

Well, the neither case would be extreme but, you never know… Some people just prefer to remain silent altogether. Usually they do it around the people they don’t trust at all. Not even a bit.

And then there are people who are a mixture of the above mentioned types!!

Maybe I’m the mixture kind! 😀

But honestly, I feel this has got more to do with the person I’m talking to rather than what kind of a person I am, which decides how and what am I gonna talk about with them.

eg. I will truly reveal my feelings (most of it) only when I trust the other person and believe that they really care and bother to hear me out! (And not because they need some material for gossip…yeah BEWARE of THAT type! Seriously.)

I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do or not, maybe it’s right for me or whatever! But this is what I do, this is what I am. I trust my gut feeling and instincts or intuition or anything you wanna call it, and just go with it.

When someone shares their feelings, I respect that person and if they are telling something in confidence (like a secret), never ever break their trust.

I love my friends (the few true friends I have) and I really do treasure them.

When they tell me how they feel (however direct or indirect) it feels good that they trust me. And when I share my feelings, it feels good that I have someone who cares.

Cheers to friendship!

I hope everyone has a friend they can be themselves with.

And is the same type as you are! 😛 (You should be so lucky!!)

Much Love,

– Realist Rebel ❤

The Monthly Ketch-Up

Greetings to all the amazing people reading this.

It’s that time of the month again! 😛

I’m talking about The Monthly Ketch-Up aka Catch-Up of my blog. This is to catch a glimpse of the previous month to see what all I did and wrote about.

Keep reading if you are interested to read some poetry, flash fiction and even some humorous posts….maybe one or two philosophical ramblings as well….

Let’s begin the show!

(PS: Color code for links: All blue and red highlights are definitely links to the mentioned posts and categories. Click away! Happy Reading. – The main purpose of this catch-up!)

The Monthly Ketch-Up : April 2015

The 4th Blogging Month. Had been quite slow. I almost disappeared after doing the last monthly Ketch-Up, which I shouldn’t have! I apologised for the same, stating reasons, with the post Uncharted Territory. Also another reason was I couldnt keep up with the Writing 101 course….well reasons, again. I hope to do it the next time… Life is so unpredictable. Whatever we think will happen, almost never does. Hmph.

So anyway, about the stats.. !5-16 posts as usual… Just today touched the 150 follower mark and total 700 likes…. 😀

Well thank you all. Each and every one of you. You rock. ❤

On that note, I would love to get to know my readers better. And like you know me through my About Page, I would like to know you or hear from you through my very New Contact Page. So if you don’t feel like sharing through comments, you can easily talk to me through there. Waiting to hear from you. 🙂

Most Popular of the Month

Seems to be a tie! Both are poems, coincidentally written for the Poetry 101 Rehab hosted by Mara Eastern. She gives such great prompts which inspire to think and write better. 😉

Find Your Flavour : Very flavour-full surprising poem for the prompt ‘Sugar’. Has all the sugar and spice you need! Do taste! 😀

No. Just No. : That’s just the title! This poem deeply reasons why the word “NO” should or shouldn’t exist in the world!

Closely following in popularity were the fiction posts:

The Follow Game : It was a flash fiction story written for the challenge ‘Monday’s Finish the Story’. The first line was provided: “They followed the buffaloes and their babies along the trail heading into the woods.” Read the story to know more!

The End…? Part 2 : Well everybody liked the first part of the story too. 😀

Truth Behind “Moved On”: Pretty self-explanatory. But mentions the crucial things most people tend to overlook.

Big News!

So in the month of March, I took part in the 50 word story challenge, hosted by Cynthia Franks. Wrote 5 stories for it.  And guess what? One of my stories got the tag of “Best story of the month”!! How cool is that! 😀 And another got 3rd place and rest got special mention too. Check out the post which mentions all this on Cynthia’s blog.:

50-word Story Round-Up March 2015

Again, thank you Cynthia. 🙂

So the story which got ‘The best of the month’ tag “The Danger Sign”, on popular demand I decided to write the story further. Check it out:

For This Month :

Few more scenes of The Danger Sign. Following parts of The End…? series. And of course more and more poetry to watch out for. With some surprise elements as well. Keep a close eye on this blog for further amazing stuff.

Gosh, I’m tired now. Gonna get some rest and meet you guys after a break!

A to Z

After blabbering from A to H

And going from I to U

Finally time for Vee to Zee !!

Here goes:

Very inspiring summary of the loving memory of people.

Will lead to another time, and it’s not a crime.

Xenophobics stay behind, unattractive and unkind.

Yesterday’s mistakes today’s lessons.

Zealous for upcoming adventure, we all call it – future.

Ice-breaker

conference-call-ice-breakers

I’m thinking about which letter to choose.

It took a while for me to realise the choice has already been made!

I’m kidding.

I realised it sooner. 😀

It was obvious. (even the last line starts with I automatically, you’ll see.)

I is probably the most probable letter to be chosen for this stupid prompt.

I mean, seriously, what were you thinking?!

I’m kidding again!

It’s a great prompt.

It just made my day.

If only I could make a better post with it.

I will work on that.

It doesn’t make any sense now?

I know.

It’s been a pleasure talking to you.

Interesting choice of words.

Indeed.

Inability to start the sentence with big words?

Inaccurate.

I think…

I proved my point.

I surrender.

Incessant, meaningless monologue/chatter ends…?

I feel your pain after reading this too.

Idea for the ideal ice-breaker….

Ice-breaker?

I doubt, but it was not so bad.

Ideal?

I don’t think so!

Idea failed?

I gotta go.

It’s been a pleasure. _/\_

I had fun, let’s do this again!
