blogaversary-front-2

Happy Blogaversary to Me! 😀

Realist Rebel’s Perception completes one year. Cant believe its been a whole year! 2nd Jan 2015, the first post on this blog was made. I have made it this far somehow, a big thank you to all my readers and also a very happy new year 2016 to everyone. 🙂 🙂

Although I know I have not been active since September so feels like I gotta start afresh. But the first 6 months on this blog were a great big experience that I’m gonna cherish forever.

Looking forward to resume my journey here and hopefully will manage to entertain you guys a bit as well (if I get over my writer’s block!).

Until next time,

Much Love,

The Chase

Ruins - © 2015, Barbara W. Beacham

Where did they go?” asked Tony the gang leader, when suddenly the couple they were chasing vanished into thin air.
“You people are useless, we have to find them before sunset otherwise you all will be dead.” And so all five of his gang members began searching again.
“The only place they can hide,” Tony pointed at the ruins of some old fort in the middle of the valley.

They saw a shelter in the haunted place that looked like an old dome-shaped room. The gang force entered the room, and suddenly, there was a blast. After five minutes, only two people came out.

“We did it! I cant believe they fell for that trap!” said the guy.

“I know babe. This is the best day ever!” replied the girl. “Let’s take their car.”

And off they drove, on the highway to hell.

Headlines later that day:

“After stealing world’s most expensive painting,
the most wanted couple,
still on the run.”

Monday’s Finish The Story. The challenge was to start the story with the given sentence and photo; finishing the story in 100-150 words. Seven words over the limit. Thanks for reading!

The Last Straw

Finally the bubble burst.
When something you believed in, you believed something to be true,
and all of a sudden you come to know it was a lie….
And you can’t tell it to anyone since the truth isn’t yours to share.

Living in a bubble is comforting. It is reassuring.
If everything else is going wrong you at least think that one thing is in place.
But no. It never was.

Sick n tired of knowing.
There are some things I don’t need to know.
I want to live in my bubble. My perfect world.

But I can’t anymore. I can’t because of the truth.
I can’t be the pigeon who chose to close his eyes when he saw the cat coming.
Or maybe I’m. Coz I don’t really have a choice, do I?
It sucks. Everything sucks.

And yet again. As always.
Life goes on…

Then he reacted in the most unexpected way….
He let out a sigh and smiled. “Well, that’s not an issue… I …”
“Don’t say you’d quit. Its still not gonna work out.” I didn’t let him finish. “You have the tendency to be a smoker again. Will always have….”
“Oh my, Elly, Elly Elly…. will you ever let me finish my sentence?!”
I stared at him silently, then to my surprise, he held my hands in the cutest way possible….
“Ok see here’s the thing…”
I didn’t let him say anything else and continued… “These are burn marks, this bandana is a camouflage, this is because of a cigarette…when i was little…” I was about to break down with a choke when he leaned in and kissed me….
“So you said you like me?” he asked, wiping my tears carefully.
“Huh?” I looked at him in awe.
“Well I like you too. I like you too much…”
“But….”
“Yeah, but I cant quit smoking for you either…” This time he cut me.
“Right. Lets just forget the whole thin….”
“I cant quit because I never started!”
“Wait, what??!!”
“Ha ha, that’s why I keep saying, lemme finish my sentences before jumping to conclusions or anticipating what am gonna say…”
“Ok just don’t say it coz i said all this…”
“No. I swear. Trust me.”
“But i saw that ASH TRAY!!” I said pointing to that bloody thing lying on the stupid table.
“OMG Elly. That belongs to my roommate!” And those were the most magical words I ever heard!!!! At least on that day!! In excitement I forgot my ankle pain and hugged Kai…
“Thank you! Thank you for not being a smoker.”
“And I never will be. I promise.”

I was relieved but decided to tell the entire story to him, just because I thought he should know. He was shocked to know the entire truth and finally managed to say, “I wish I was there that day. I would have definitely kicked that guy’s ass!”, mostly to cheer me up.
“Yeah right! You would also have been a little kid just like me Kai! But there’s one more thing. Apart from this burn mark, there is another one. When that guy slapped me, he was holding the cigarette in the same hand. And perhaps accidentally it burned my face a little. So there’s this teeny tiny mark just below my left cheek…”
“It’s not even noticeable.” Kai said when I tried to show the faint discolored line on my face. Then he continued… “I hate cigarettes as much as you do, believe me. Not many people know, I lost my father because of this. He fell ill and nobody could convince him to quit smoking. I still wish I had tried more….”
“Hey, I had no idea. M sorry. M sure you did your best.” I managed to say this much, when really I was so shocked and sad to hear his side of the story.
“And you… you are beautiful. You are flawless. Always remember this. I like you as you are. These things don’t bother me. And you know what.”
“What?”
“You should get a tattoo over your wrist, and then you can flaunt it. You should be proud of everything you have.”
“I think I should be proud of you as well, Kai.”
And we couldn’t stop smiling.

*Epilogue*

This marks the beginning of Kai and Eliza (Elly).
Just another untold, unheard story out of the many out there, being written by fate everyday.
Elly realized, not every person turns out to be a bad guy. You just need to let go of prejudices.
Kai realized physical beauty is not everything. There are much more important things in life.
Both feel that their hatred against smoking should be turned into something meaningful.
They plan to join anti-tobacco and smoking hazard campaigns in the near future.
Kai would start with convincing his room-mate to quit.
Elly doesn’t think about that incident from her childhood so often anymore.
Kai too is slowly trying to let go of what happened. Elly is helping him to forgive himself. She says no one was to be blamed for his father’s death. Perhaps he is in a better place now; free of all the suffering.

People can surprise you beyond imagination. Just give them a chance and see.
Kai and Eliza surprise each other everyday.

What do you think about the story?
Comments / feedback / constructive criticism welcome.

Thanks for reading. ❤

Classic Bob Everyday

“Beautiful day to walk in the garden.” Bob seemed to think when he jumped up at me at 6 in the morning. Bob likes to give surprises as much as he loves to receive them. Bob who? Oh I didn’t tell you? Bob is my dog. Bob is a sweetheart. We got him from the pound. Everybody there used to call him that so we decided we will keep the name. He loves to hear his name too.

“Ok ok I’m up. Stop making a mess Bob.” At last, I gave in. “Don’t know what possessed this dog today, so much energy?” I thought.

“Out of the room now. I’m coming. Stay away from the study table or else you’ll spill the ink…” And it’s already done.

Bob ran out of the room; he knew he would get a scolding otherwise.

10 minutes later, I had to let him out. He was continuously barking at the door and the window alternately.

Must be the mail man. Bob hates that guy. Once he chased the mail man around the block for an hour. The mail man wears skates now.

I let him out and then went to the kitchen to get some food for both of us.

Thankfully there were some left over pan-cakes. I reheated them and ate them with maple syrup.

“Better wash this plate or else Bob would come looking for it.” I told myself.

After taking some dog-food for him, I went outside to check the mail box. But it was empty. And Bob was still barking at frequent intervals.

“Look at you sitting here comfortably. Why are you barking at the tree? Yeah you wont tell I know. Classic Bob.”

After looking around a bit, I finally spotted a Blue-Jay bird sitting on the middle branch.

“Oh boy! That bird is so gorgeous! Been a while, haven’t spotted one of these in a long time. Come on Bob, leave the Blue-Jay alone. The poor bird will not steal your food!”

Ok, time’s up. Otherwise, I was gonna tell you about The Big Bang Theory Episode where Sheldon is afraid of birds (Blue-Jay was at his window.) Sheldon tried to scare the bird away by making cat sounds and drawings. Then tries to keep it as a pet but it eventually flies away.

In this story, I was gonna tell you, Bob would have been compared to Sheldon, which Bob doesn’t like and when he is still not able to scare the bird away, I would have said: “I knew I should’ve gotten a cat.” 😉

Yeah, and Bob Cat sounds so much better than Bob Dog, doesn’t it? 😀

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “A Dog Named Bob.”
Challenge: You have 20 minutes to write a post that includes the words mailbox, bluejay, plate, syrup, and ink. And one more detail… the story must include a dog named Bob.

The Danger Sign – Scene 6

The Danger Sign – Scene 6

*Present Day – At Kai’s Apartment*

Some scars are invisible, some vanish and some will never leave your body. They will always be an ugly reminder of the past you wish you never had. Those scars will never go away. Neither from my skin nor from my mind.

That burn mark still rests on my wrist; carefully hidden behind a watch or a wrist band or sometimes even a stupid bandana.

” I shouldn’t stay here.” I told myself whilst coming back to senses after reliving the horrific incident for the n-th time. “How come I didn’t know? Damn it. He never smoked in front of me. I gotta get out of this place.”

On the way out I tried to kick that side table where the ash tray was still sitting, but I missed and slipped a bit, ended up twisting my ankle instead. “Ouch!” I almost shouted,  trying to scuff out of his apartment anyway…. lost my balance and fell on the floor.

“Hey, whoa! Stop!” Kai came running back…. “Hey Eliza, are you all right?!”

He knelt beside me. “Does it hurt real bad?”

“No I was just shouting to check if my vocal chords work fine.” I replied.

He chuckled. “Looks fine to me” he tried to examine my ankle.

“Ouch! Hey don’t!” I said, gently slapping his hand away.

“Wait.” He got up and went inside again, came back with an ice pack.

But I was already up by then. “Goodbye Kai. I cant stay. I have to go. Please don’t call me….”

“Whaa… Hold on….stop a sec. What’s this about?” He gave a puzzled look.

“I can’t be with you. You should have told me before.”

“Could you please sit down and tell me what should’ve I told ya, and then we’ll see?”

“I cant, just lemme go.” I stepped out, almost limping, was about to fall again…

He came from behind, grabbed me in his arms and rescued me from falling…

Well almost! He fell himself, and I fell on him. We ended up laughing…. Ten seconds later, I looked at him, and a tear rolled down my cheek….

He took my face in his hands… looked me in the eye and whispered, “Hey. M getting worried.”

“M sorry Kai. I cant do this. I really like you, but we have to end things. I cant be with a guy who smokes.”

The Monthly Ketch-Up

Hello there!

How have you been? I’ve been missing writing for my blog so so much! Feels so great to be back! ^_^

Finally time to do The Monthly Ketch-Up aka Catch-Up of my blog yet again. Like every month, this is gonna be sort of a recap/throwback/flashback of the blog posts I made last month, so that you all can enjoy these posts again or catch-up on those you missed.

Let’s start! 🙂

The Monthly Ketch-Up : May 2015

The 5th month of this blog, and for me it’s been that long of being a blogger. Wow! Well, to begin with, this month I have been a bit lazy or laid back you might say. But sometimes a break is good. You never know, it might turn into some research and stuff too. 😉

Right now, I’m steering clear of all the stats, hardly had a few posts last month. But few turned out well. 😉

Most Popular of the Month

Obviously begin with the best. 😀

The Only Choice : And it’s a flash fiction story written for MFtS challenge. Honestly, this is my favorite too. It almost has all the elements. Well, almost. 😉 You can read and decide yourself.
What is happening in the life of Amaya – the mysterious girl on the beach…

Another flash fiction story for the same challenge

Captain Chronicles : All aboard the ship. Something is fishy. Find out what is bothering the Captain!

More Fiction:

The Danger Sign – Scene 5 : Well this was the 5th installment of the series. But the last one with the flashbacks. Confused? You can always start at the beginning. 😉

Poetry

This month only one poetry post. Not fair, eh? Ok, will do better next month.

Cycle of Recycle : Written for Poetry101Rehab this one is a little tricky. Recycle or Reincarnation or something else? Do find out and read the poem!

Movie Review

You’re Not You (2014) : The movie truly moved me. It’s about an ALS patient (played by Hillary Swank) and her unique bond with her care taker. Very inspiring.

Other:

Friendships, Feelings And MoreMy Perception on different type of friends and Friends’ Relationships; Emotional or Philosophical stuff:

And,

Surprise:

So I talked about a surprise in the last Ketch-up and here it is!!

Smile For Me Baby – (My First Song) : Title explains all. I call it a song rather than a poem since it felt like one and I was sort of singing it out while writing. 😀 So yeah, my first song indeed! I have no idea why I wrote it or for whom, but I just did. Hope someone smiles after reading it! 🙂

For This Month :

Alright people, this was it. For June, expect the final two installments for The Danger Sign, maybe a few more stories and poems.

Keeping it short and sweet.

See you next month,

Enjoy

Much Love,

– Realist Rebel

Captain Chronicles

2015-05-18-bw-beacham1 The crew of the Angel Flame received orders to head out. It was a regular day. The ocean was rather quiet than usual. So the crew decided to fulfill the orders immediately as they wanted to get back before Christmas eve.

Few hours after leaving the harbor, captain saw something he couldn’t believe. He panicked and informed the crew that they are heading back. Just to be sure of what he saw, he called the co captain.

“Tell me Parker, what do you see?”

“It’s hard to say sir, the distance is huge. Could be some sort of mirage.”

“Come on! There are lives at stake here. Don’t play your stupid games. Hurry.”

“No sir. With all due respect, I’d say, we should explore. I don’t see any danger.”

“You insane? You’re telling me there’s nothing wrong with a green Hawaiian-like island with dinosaur creatures roaming around, right in the middle of Antarctica? Huh?” Shouted the captain, whilst turning the ship back.

The Only Choice

2015-05-11-bw-beacham

Arriving at the beach, she reflected on her life. Nothing seemed to distract her – the warm breeze, the tidal waves or the noisy pelicans – none of them. It was a fairly beautiful day but not for Amaya. She couldn’t care less.

Her life choices had always been made for her. She never got to choose. This was a new territory for her – of having a choice. Scared to the core, thinking about what will happen next, has left her completely baffled.

Now if only she could ascertain whether to go back to the life of petty crime or to surrender herself for the murder she never committed. Tough first choice.

Choice to save herself or the person who has been controlling her life since forever.

Deep in thoughts, she was staring into nothingness of the horizon. Suddenly her chain of thoughts were disrupted by a cute german shepherd, who came looking for its frisbee which got stuck in the branches of a big tree standing tall behind the rocks.

For a minute, Amaya forgot all about her tensions and started petting the canine. “Hey big guy! What are you doing here? Go play near the water.” Pointing to the frisbee, the dog communicated what it wanted. Amaya got the frisbee, looked at the happy go lucky dog, kissed him goodbye and threw the frisbee as far as she could.

Just as she watched the german shepherd bounce toward the flying saucer, carefree, enjoying the moment, she got up, held her head high with determination and with a big smile on her face, she took the first step toward her freedom.

Monday’s Finish The Story. The challenge was to start the story with the given sentence and photo; finishing the story in 100-150 words. Second attempt. Sorry for exceeding the word limit, got carried away! Thanks for reading! ❤
